Frequently Asked Questions

Picture

Q. What kind of music do you play?
The solo violin works beautifully for pop, classical, folk, classic love songs,  Disney & show-tunes. For example some popular choices are All of Me  by John Legend, Beauty and The Beast, Hallelujah, A Million Dreams, Canon in D, When I Fall in Love, A Whole New World, Time of Your Life (Green Day) and Can't Help Falling In Love. Have a look at our song-lists and videos for more suggestions. If you have a particular song in mind that isn't listed, just let me know and I will cater for requests whereever possible.

The violin/guitar duo works really well for a range of musical styles including pop, jazz, classical, film themes and folk. Some songs, especially pop/rock work better as the duo with guitar- for example Oasis 'Wonderwall' or 'Crazy Little Thing' by Queen.

The Violin Jazz Quartet play Hot Club style jazz of the 1920s/30s/40s - an upbeat, acoustic style of jazz that will create a great atmosphere without drowning out your guests' conversation!

Q. Can we choose what pieces you play?
A. Any pieces listed on the song-lists can be chosen for the wedding ceremony.
Wherever possible Emma will cater for any special requests. If you have a song in mind that isn’t on the current songlist just ask!
We are constantly adding new songs to our playlist so for an up to date songlist drop us a message!

Q. Do you need a power supply?
A. For most venues I will use a small amplifier and a high quality DPA microphone to boost volume to suit the size of the room.
For small intimate venues with a small number of guests or where no power supply is available I can play 100% acoustic.

Q. Do you play for receptions?
A. Yes - all options are also available for receptions as well as parties, proposals, anniversaries and functions.

Q. Can you play outside?
A.
As long as the weather is dry and fine Emma can play outside for your drinks reception or for outdoor ceremonies. If it rains at all she would need to play under shelter or move indoors as rain damages the violin.

Q. Where are you based and what area do you cover?
A. Emma is
based in Durham and regularly play at weddings and events in County Durham, Teeside, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Leeds, Cumbria, Scottish Borders. We can also quote for events outside this area - just ask!

Q. Do you play for other events besides weddings?
A. Yes Emma can play for family parties, wedding anniversaries, special birthdays, corporate functions, valentines or even proposals!

Q. What is the cost of hiring a solo violinist?
A.

Q. What does the price include?
A. The price includes advice on music choices prior to the wedding; provision of all equipment where amplification is  required; set up time of 30-45 minutes prior to the performance time; the performance itself, all necessary equipment, public liability.
